Protoboard also known as Perfboard (Perforated) is a circuit board with a bunch of holes usually in a X-Y matrix, but also found with some of the holes connected to form a Buss or patterned for a specific type component. Various sized boards with total holes from <200 to >1200. Protoboards are available with no copper on either side, copper on 1 side or on both sides. Most Protoboard Printed Circuit Boards, with a copper layer, will have round “donut” or square copper pads that you solder to on at least 1 side. These pads give the parts on the Protoboard support. With the Protoboards, you place sockets or components through the holes in the board and interconnect the leads by bending together and soldering or attaching discrete wires. The use of a protoboard is usually one step in the design process. Constructing a circuit on a protoboard usually follows having built it on a solderless breadboard, and in turn is followed by an actual etched or routed printed circuit board.
