As of August 2018 the State of California has changed the requirements of the “Prop 65” law. We now must list on our website any possible chemicals the can cause cancer, birth defects or reproductive problem.
As an example:
ABS plastic contains styrene
PVC wire insulation can contain Di(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP)
electrolytic capacitors can contain Ethylene glycol
Brass can contain Lead
flame retardant pc boards can contain Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA)
Aluminum alloys can contain Chromium
To put it simply we are a small company and do not have the resources to test every single part, so we list every thing as hazardous. Please recycle all electronic parts responsibly and under no circumstance eat, drink or smoke these parts and wash your hands after touching!
I travel quite a bit for work, sometimes for longer periods of a couple of weeks up to a month, so I like to bring some of my projects along to tinker in the evenings in the hotel room. Ive managed to acquire miniature versions of everything else USB scope, meter, adjustable soldering iron, etc., the the power supply always eluded me.
Well, this is the solution. I really like that the 110V plug goes right into the unit theres no external wall wart, and its easy to set for any desired voltage or current limit. Theres also a USB mode that locks the output at 5.1V. A neat feature is that it has several memories you can easily pre-program for voltage/current settings. Although it only has one digital display, its easy one button to switch between voltage and current. The rest of the controls are very easy to use to, once you understand the supplies capabilities.
The biggest complaint I have about the supply is that it wont operate as a true constant-current source. A dead short on the output will switch it out of operate mode, unlike the lab-type supplies that Im used to using. An overload will drop the output voltage as expected, but when it gets down below about half a volt, it treats it as a short and shuts down.
My only other minor quibble is that the USB output is not independent of the main output. When USB mode is selected theres a dedicated button for this, the output is locked at 5.1 volts, although you can still adjust the current limit. Depending upon what youre doing ,that may be fine if youre developing a bit of USB-powered gear, for example, but in my case I was hoping to use the USB output to power a bit of other gear while using the supply in variable mode.
All told, its a very useful supply, in a fantastically portable form factor.
