Our .062in. Coated Copper Clad circuit boards have a photo sensitive coating over the copper and are called “Coated Copper Board”, Coated Boards or Photosensitive Boards. A Coated Copper Clad PC board is a sandwich of alternating conductive layers & insulating layers with a Bottom and/or top layer(s) of a photo emulsion (Photo Resist). By using a clear plastic sheet with the traces and patterns taped, drawn or printed on; you have generated a pattern that is put in contact with the photo emulsion on the coated copper board and exposed to sun light. After exposure, the exposed board is developed like a picture to set the” resist” coating, then the remaining emulsion is rinsed away. The Coated Copper Board is now etched in a solution that removes the unprotected copper leaving the interconnecting traces. Boards are generally coated with either Tin or Solder to protect the copper and make soldering easier.
