Perfect for STEM education projects
Good for STEM education / Arduino projects. Runs at reduced speed from 5V and still slower with a PWM signal through a transistor. Yellow wire is hall effect sensor, use a pullup resistor and view the square wave on a scope appears to be 2 pulses per revolution. Use a reflective IR sensor TCRT5000 and sense a little piece of foil taped to one blade to measure RPM. Have students carefully place a little piece of paper in the path of the blades like a playing card in bicycle spokes and guess the clicks per second frequency and by extension the RPM. Finally build closed loop control system to command a specific fixed RPM under different loads.

Great price, Im getting a bunch of them!
...the yellow wire is a tachometer output. It is used in smart systems to detect a fan failure to prevent overheating damage by either notifying a user or shutting off high-powered loads.
Works Good - No Wiring Diagram
This is a 3 wire fan -- by trial and error, found out that red + and black - are the 12VDC power in. Does not accept reverse polarity. Have no idea what the yellow wire is -- probably a sense line of some sort, but seems to work fine without connection
