Re split phase power measurement
Actually one CAN measure total power in a typical domestic 120-0-120V split-phase power system. Wire up for single phase measurement per the instructions. Then thread the hot current-carrying wire from the other phase through the current transformer in the OPPOSITE direction. The current transformer will then respond to the sum of the two currents.

Does what it says, but theres a catch
This is a neat little meter, and it does what it says well. Heres the catch: the current metering is on one phase only, and if you intend to monitor a common household, you will only get half of the picture. Perfect for a load that pulls of both phases 220V, but not so much for watching you houses energy usage.
